Medical cannabis – fundamentals for professionals

An overview of classification, active compounds, and the legal framework of cannabis as a medicine. This page does not replace medical or pharmaceutical advice.

Cannabis flower against a light background
Dense trichome coverage is a characteristic feature of high-quality medical cannabis flowers.

What is medical cannabis?

Cannabis flowers and extracts dispensed by pharmacies as prescription medicines. Product-specific instructions and approved documentation always take precedence.

Components of cannabis

Cannabinoids and terpenes shape the analytical and aromatic profile. Their composition and concentration are determined for each batch.

Legal framework

Supply and dispensing are governed by the applicable pharmaceutical and professional requirements.

Prescription and dispensing

Medical cannabis is supplied through pharmacies on the basis of the applicable prescription and dispensing rules.

More background knowledge

Why is 25% THC not the same as 25% THC?
The THC value stated on the label describes the flower's total content in the laboratory. Effects and perception also depend on the terpene profile, other cannabinoids, freshness, and individual metabolism (the so-called entourage effect). Two varieties with identical THC values can therefore differ noticeably in practice.
What are trichomes and why are they important?
Trichomes are the resinous glandular hairs on the flower surface in which cannabinoids and terpenes are formed. Their density, colour, and condition are considered indicators of the flower's maturity and quality.
How can you recognize high-quality cannabis flowers?
Features such as even trichome coverage, an intact flower appearance, and a characteristic aroma are considered visual quality indicators – but quality is reliably demonstrated only by complete batch documentation and independent laboratory analysis.
Mechanism of action of cannabinoids
Cannabinoids such as THC and CBD act through the body's own endocannabinoid system, particularly the CB1 and CB2 receptors, which are involved in pain processing, inflammatory responses, and appetite regulation, among other things. The individual effect is assessed by the treating physician.
Qualität, Reinheit & Herstellung
Our cannabis flowers are cultivated without pesticides, are not irradiated, and are produced in accordance with European quality standards (EU-GACP cultivation, EU-GMP processing).
